Proposal Feedback

Overview

  • 5% of Final Mark
  • The best proposals are those that have been reviewed by many different perspectives. And in your future role as professional in the food system, you are likely to be asked to both submit and review many proposals. To support your capacity to provide critical, constructive and evidence-based feedback on proposals, each student will be responsible for providing feedback on a different group's proposal.

Learning Objectives

1. Critically analyze connections between food, health, and the environment within food security discourse.

  • Evaluate the contributions of different food-related academic disciplines to addressing food security issues
  • Integrate disciplinary and systems approaches to understanding food security issues

2. Propose, implement and evaluate a community-based food systems project with an interdisciplinary team.

  • Articulate community values and objectives within broader food system theories
  • Evaluate project outcomes to demonstrate effectiveness of collective actions

3. Interact professionally with project team members and community stakeholders

  • Develop and disseminate knowledge that is useful to key stakeholders through oral and written communication
  • Identify and integrate personal, group, and community values and objectives
  • Participate collaboratively as an effective team member, and provide constructive
feedback to peers

Instructions

Step 1: Each group will upload their proposal to a distinct Canvas discussion page.

Step 2: Each student is assigned one proposal to review and provide feedback through a Canvas discussion thread.

Feedback will follow the SIR Method:

Strength - highlight and articulate areas of the proposal that you found clear, informative, insightful, and well-supported.

Improvement - indicate areas of the proposal that you found unclear, confusing, or need (better) evidence to support the claims being made; consider the overall coherency of the proposal; are there ideas or sections that do not connect with the stated objectives of the proposal?

Remedy - suggest ways to improve the overall quality, clarity and coherence of the proposal; if you are familiar with the topic area, you could suggest peer-reviewed articles or other resources that may be useful

We suggest you use bullet points under each section heading above, and aim for 150-200 words per section.
