The Galiano Community Food Program wants a comprehensive index of agricultural items and the relevant purchasing information for all of Galiano Island. This project involves internet research, interviews and site visits to identify store-keepers, farmers, and island processors to be included in the index. Students working on this project are expected to make at least one weekend visit to Galiano Island and will need access to a vehicle as there is no public transit on the island. This project is especially relevant for students majoring in food and the environment, food science or food market analysis and/or who want to learn more about commerce, sustainability, and food security. For this project, you need to be extremely thorough and have strong interpersonal skills. Throughout the project, you’ll develop interviewing skills while learning about island life.
