Project Description

What challenge or issue does the project aim to address?

On November 15, 2021, the Vancouver Park Board approved the 2021 Local Food System Action Plan, (LFSAP). This update of the 2013 LFAP outlines a 5-year plan with the following vision:

"To move towards a sustainable, just and decolonized local food system by making space for Indigenous food sovereignty, increasing equitable access to food assets and services, and working towards food system resiliency as part of climate action."

This project will provide Hastings Community Centre with tips for implementing and/or furthering the goals of the 2021 LFSAP within our own kitchen and garden, using the resources we have available to us at the Centre.

Main Project Activities and Deliverables

• Review of the LFSAP plus knowledge of current decolonization, equity, diversity, and inclusion practices
• Plans for furthering the goals of the LFSAP - either through the way our garden is structured, additional workshops we could hold, increased community outreach, or a combination
• Infographic for Centre users that summarizes the LFSAP and what it means for people living in Hastings-Sunrise
